Questions on Current Mainstream Music

1. What mainstream musicians do you like if any and why? 2. If you dislike/hate current mainstream music, name one artist/band that embodies everything or most of what you hate about it. (Yeah I know, not really a question.) 3. “…music has no soul.” What exactly do you interpret “soul” to mean? 4. Do you hate Nickelback? Why? Why do you think they are targeted specifically? 5. Do you like Spotify? If Spotify or similar software determined chart positions would this be an improvement on the current situation or would it make it worse? Paul Gray was Slipknot’s bass player. Love them or hate them, you can’t deny the impact that Slipknot have on many people and he will be missed. 3OH!3, I liked that band before they became Mainstream. Their first album was pretty good, but the new album they put out sounds like washed up Ke$ha. Quiet dissapointing. I like most of the music genres today. Anything from Death Metal to Dubstep.. Their is some good mainstream rap, alot of it sucks though. I dont know were im going with this. haha. either way I like music, I prefer non- main stream, Indie type stuff. Know any good bands letme know:)

@TheAlanDeath Ah but that’s the point. Do they actually listen to the songs or do they just get them to be cool because they were played at the club or whatever? The system I proposed would shed some light on the answer.

I am going to make a video in response to this after my laptop gets back (I broke it at a drunk party, lol), but I must point out that I disagree with you on the Spotify concept. What with so many people listening to nearly nothing but what is “on the radio today,” You’d get many more people listening to popular, shamelessly mainstream acts than people listening to acts such as Mastodon & Porcupine Tree.

Justin Bieber’s songs get millions of views. Mastodon’s get significantly less.

@sooriginalful 1. There is no such thing as “REAL” music. It’s all music.
    2. Don’t judge entire genres of music by their most commercially minded performers.

I don’t really think I hate Nickleback…. I think I hate their fans. A lot of people you hope/expect to be able to relate to on musical preference will explain that they “love Nickleback” and simply put the only reason they seem to “love Nickleback” is because they are so popular. Simply put, they’re sound has come and gone and it didn’t really bring much with it; but now there are all of these “Nickleback drones”, if you will, and they just “love Nickleback” not the music.

@Orygyn hiya man, i often find that the no soul thing is just an excuse to say something negatvie about a band. Im a huge dream theater fan and people often say they have no soul when they cant think of any thing else bad to say about them. This is often also the case with many metal and progressive bands, people blindly say “they have no soul”.

    1. None at the moment
2.Lil’Wayne and Young money, because when a person thinks about rap/hip hop music they think that all rap/hip hop music is like that and wind up hatting all rap/hip hop music.(they are ruining rap/hip hop).

4.) I hate Nickleback because I really dislike the lead’s voice, the lyrics, and the copy/paste mentality of the chordal/melodic structure of their songs.
5.) I don’t really know Spotify though I’ve heard of it. If chart makers incorporated internet plays like in Spotify or Last rather than relying exclusively on them, I think it would be an improvement.
